Synopsis: A Czechoslovakian cellist named Frantisek, once a renowned musician, is reduced at middle age to indulging other men's wives and playing at funerals. On the eve of a 1989 revolution, the bachelor agrees to marry a Russian woman seeking Czech papers. When his bride unexpectedly emigrates to Germany and leaves behind a six year-old son, the musician's life is dramatically altered. Frantisek sees the boy as an occupier, as Kolya is Russian. Switching between calling another Russian girlfriend for a tryst and a bedtime story for the boy, KOLYA becomes a gem of a light comedy.
In Czech with subtitles.
