Synopsis
Featuring an original soundtrack by Throwing Muses' Kristen Hersch and set in Boston's own South-End, NEVER MET PICASSO is a literate and whimsical tale about the mysteries of art, love and sex. Andrew Magnus (played to perfection by drag queenster Alexis Arquette) is a 30-year old "art fag"/painter in the midst of a creative crisis. He is joined by his best friend Lucy (comic/performer Georgia Ragsdale), a lipstick-lesbian sculptor who, along with her quirky girlfriend, builds monuments to dead women artists - with a special inspiration from the spirits of Female Surrealists. Adding to this hysterical ensemble cast is Margot Kidder(Superman's Lois Lane) as Andrew's mother, a divorced actress with an emerging lesbian attraction to Lucy. Punctuated by word associations, slide shows of Andrew's childhood drawings, and old photographs taken by Andrew's gay uncle's lover, NEVER MET PICASSO unfolds as clever narrative vignettes. Ultimately, the film is an affectionate drama about contemporary artists-on-the-edge and a respectful nod to generations of lesbian, gay men, women and artists who have been lost to history for reasons not their own.
