The Lapis Lazuli Band was born at the 1997 Montreal Jazz Festival. Festival producer Andre Menard invited trombonist Ray Anderson to participate in the festiva's prestigious Invitational Series, with Ray leading 5 different bands over five nights. The blues band was one of them, created in collaboration with Andre Menard and it became the biggest hit at the festival.
